Resolution to build terminal passes 4-0 The final score from citizens who testified Wednesday was 27-17 against the county building a commercial airline terminal at Paine Field. But in the end, the only votes that counted were the four from the front of the room. And that score was 4-0 in favor, with County Councilmember Brian Sullivan absent.
The county recently drafted a resolution affirming its intent to negotiate in good faith with commercial airlines wanting to come to Paine Field, but went a step further by saying that it’s in the county’s best interest to build a terminal itself rather than allowing a third party to do so. Perhaps the most surprising vote for opponents of passenger air service was Councilmember Mike Cooper’s change of heart.
“I like to be with my friends, but that won’t be possible today,” he said. “Nothing has changed about my position in that the county should discourage passenger air service. “But I have a responsibility as an elected official and steward of your money to do what is right, what is legal.” |

Photo by Jaxon Ravens If former Edmonds City Council member Deanna Dawson and Europe Through The Back Door proprietor Rick Steves look happy, there must be a reason for it. They were among local residents on hand for President Barack Obama’s Washington, D.C. inauguration at one of several celebratory events designed for that purpose. This one was the Western/Southwestern Regional ball at the Convention Center. |
